The last two weeks I have talked about my creative space and the commitment that I made to make it more conducive to creative work and how I was able to let go of so many unused supplies. I have to admit that the process to move and sort through everything took a couple of months. It was physically and mentally exhausting. And to be totally and completely hones, there are still some leftover organizing projects but everything has a home now and I can find things.
I am really pleased with how my space turned out. The room is long and narrow which made space planning more difficult but I was able to work with what I had with only a few minor changes. I did have to give up my IKEA Expedit shelves which work so well for scrapbook stuff but I repurposed them in the play area to corral additional toys.
One wall of my office became my work surface side. A tall table to work on scrapbook projects and two regular height tables for my computer, printers and scanner. I was able to use IKEA’s Helmer and Alex drawer units under the tables for storage of office supplies. One addition to the space is a craft table from Crate and Barrel which has drop sides and is perfect for my sewing machine and supplies. It is on wheels so I can roll it out and expand the work surface. I also reused my Wall Control metal pegboard style organizers which I love!
The other wall contains my IKEA Effectiv Cabinets. Two of them have a cabinet above two file drawers. The third has a cabinet above a roll-top cabinet and smaller drawers. I am really sorry to see that IKEA discontinued this line. It was a fantastic series with so many options. I did add a single Kallax 1×4 tower to the space to serve as a bookcase for my space.
The second best part of the move was gaining a window. The view isn’t pretty, it’s half window well and half fence but it lets in light and that makes me happy. The best part of this process though, being able to breathe and work in my space. I intend to keep it this way for a long time to come.
What do you love best about your space?
Love your room….where did your chair come from? Is it comfortable?
Thank you! I got the chair at IKEA and after about 7 years I am still happy with it. It is comfortable and the sides don’t get in the way like the arms of a regular chair. Hope that helps.
